This project was originally initiated with a participation in 36 days of type. It started with a series of 3d letter experiments over at Instagram! My bachelor thesis professor Katja Butt asked me “when I’ll finally make a short film out of these clips”. She offered me to show this (currently not existing) short film at a Strichstärke Exhibition in the Literaturhaus Köln on the 14.12.2023.
Being excited by the opportunity, I immediately started to craft the short film.
About the short film
This film is one of the few instances, where I created everything in it. Even the music. For that I busted out my PO-14 and generated dynamic sound design based on the image in TouchDesigner. It’s a very unorthodox way of working with audio - I know.
The strange simulations bring the letters to life and move through the petri dish like failed experiments. All experiments are completely physics based, which makes the results unpredictable and it’s only very indirectly art directed. Most of the simulations were wedged to generate a variety of styles and movements & pick the most fitting.
The project is an experimental piece that plays with different biological themes on a macro level & pushes the fascination of science into a obscure parallel world.
